Esporao, Reserva Tinto (2021)

Esporao, Reserva Tinto (2021)

REGION: Alentejo

COUNTRY: Southern Portugal

GRAPE(S): 25% Alicante Bouschet, 25% Trincadeira, 20% Touriga Nacional, 15% Aragonez (Tempranillo), 15% Cabernet Sauvignon

BODY: Medium

ABV: 14%

TASTING NOTES: Aromas of woodland berries and jammy ripe plums accented by subtle notes of spearmint. The palate is sophisticated but reserved for the grapes used and climate that it comes from. Flavors of blackberries, black plums and hints of cloves complement integrated tannins and lifted acidity.

WINEMAKING NOTES: Each variety is harvested separately, then destemmed and crushed. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel and concrete vats at controlled temperatures, followed by pressing in small marble presses and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel. The wine ages for 12 months in 20% new and 80% used American and French oak barrels, then at least 6 months in the bottle.

FUN FACT: Art has been part of Esporão Reserva since its very beginning. Every year they invite a new artist to illustrate their labels and each work tells a story that is completed within. This label is illustrated by Alexandre Conefrey.

PAIRS WELL WITH: Grilled steak or lamb with an Autumn spice rub (cinnamon, allspice, chili powder, brown sugar), Roasted game (duck or venison).
